Young Muslim Professionals Drinking Alcohol

A new problem is cropping up in the workplace: drinking by young Muslim professionals.

Recently, at a fundraising dinner for a Muslim cause held in a hotel in North America, a Muslim volunteer for the dinner expressed the concern that some Muslims might be bringing in drinks from the hotel bar.   He was shocked that a major concern of the organizers was “should we or should we not” invite the older generation? Why? Because the organizers feared that the young crowd, who have recently moved into jobs, and who were likely to be the main donors, would not come if they couldn’t drink – buying and bringing drinks from the hotel bar — in front of parents and their parents’ friends.

What was amazing was the organizers are practicising Muslims.  I am wondering if this plague is common in professional circles not only in North America, but elsewhere.
