This is HISTORIC for American- Muslims and Muslims around the world. This is the first time in history that the United States Congress will commemorate and recognize the month of Ramadan as the Islamic holy month. The language from the bill text is below for your viewing. The Congress passed the resolution with 376 voting yes, 42 (primarily Republicans) voting not to support it, and 14 abstaining on October 2,2007. For a list of names showing how individual members of Congress voted, please click here. This will be important in the future when they canvass Muslim voters for financial donations and votes.
