Torture in Egypt: Part 4–Officer ‘Arrested’

Please note that although a couple of the officers were eventually arrested, they represent only the tip of the torture iceberg. So far, the track record of Egyptian authorities in pursuing police torturers is relatively weak (see the 2002 table below), and this is why the torturers who dishonor Egypt feel they have impunity to carry out their activities.

More stringent, permanent, and legally enforceable safeguards need to be put in place in Egyptian law, and the torturers should receive appropriate punishment under the law. There should be zero tolerance for torture globally, and especially in Muslim countries whether one is working as a policeman or at any other job.
